Ramadan Iftar Recipes & Ideas
Ramadan Mubarak to you all! If you do not know what Ramadan is, it is a special month for muslims when they do a lot of prayers, reading Quran and fast from sunrise till sunset. Yes! no water or food till sunset 🙂 How can we stay healthy?! The trick is to eat right and understand why we really do this, at the end it is all in the mind! I find the easiest part of Ramadan is actually the food fasting piece, the hardest is we also have to stay “nice”. So, no bad words, no gossip, no swearing, no no no bad anything! So, imagine your boss or somebody you are not a big fan of coming by and you are fasting and s/he decided to share some of his or her mind, so you need to remember that you are still fasting and keep that smile on.
In general, this is a great month when people gather after a long day of fasting and working hard to stay kind and nice regardless of how good or bad the day has been around a nice hot meal. I have these great memories of Ramadan in Egypt many many years ago when people start to decorate the streets with Ramadan decorations. All families gather around awesome meal starting with the authentic drinks of karakadeeh or qamar el deen, dates and then the awesome hot and delicious meal. Anyone is more than welcome to share a meal at Iftar time! Sharing and caring is filling the air. Neighbors knock on the doors to share middle eastern deserts, rice pudding or qatayef and vice versa. Is it still like that there? I am really not looking for the answer because these memories are engraved in my mind regardless of what it is like there now.
I will try to share with you some of these memories through food. I will create one Iftar idea per day. Remember, do not over do it and never waste food. Remember your neighbors to share with and live the real feeling of Ramadan.
