Cooking out of the box – The creamiest Flan

Being lazy pays off – sometimes! This is the morale of this post and the video below πŸ™‚ I love flan also known as cream caramel in the middle east, but there is no way I would do all those steps to make it from scratch. So many eggs! This recipe will be easy and fulfilling, I promise.

I tried few brands and by far my favorite one is “The Royal”. We will follow all directions as is on the box but with tiny twists:

  • We will use two packets not one
  • Do not use milk only as instructed, we will add heavy whipping cream, half and half and more

Ingredients:

  • 2 packets of “The royal”
  • 4 cups 2% milk
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2 cups heavy whipping cream
  • 4 tbsp NIDO (powder milk)
  • 1 tbsp or packet of vanilla

We will mix all the ingredients above in a bowl and set aside

Follow exact same directions as on the box from here

Add the flan mix to the milk on a pot on medium heat

Keep stirring, stirring and stirring until the boiling point. Otherwise it will burn from the bottom and tiny pieces of burnt flan will be floating around πŸ™‚

In a non stick cake pan, add the caramel sauce – do not spread and leave it thick

Pour the flan mix and set aside for 30 mins to cool

Refirgerate for 5 hours or more

Flip and enjoy! but do not blob as I did at the end of the video
