This weird miraculous 3 layered cake gives you a feeling while preparing it that it will fail for sure but miraculously it works out in the oven and the look and taste is really good! It is basically made of 3 layers of caramel, flan and chocolate cake. It has an interesting name in arabic as “Qudret Qadir” that translates to the power of the powerful. I understand now why it is called so and the reason is it just works somehow in the oven and the layer separates. It is not a very well known cake in Egypt but some “powerful” ladies can make it 😀 Hope you enjoy it!
Ingredients:
2 boxes of flan
5 cups of milk
3 eggs
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 cups flour
1 1/2 cup sugar
3/4 cup yogurt
2 tbsp baking powder
5 tbsp cocoa powder
1 tbsp vanilla
Layer 1:
Caramel packets from the flan boxes
Layer 2:
Flan out of the box. Mix the flan powder with the cold milk in a bowl (number of milk cups is on the box). Set aside and do not cook at all. It will be cooked in the oven with the other layers.
Layer 3:
The cake:
Mix the sugar and the oil very well. Add one egg at a time and mix well. Add the vanilla and mix. Add the yogurt and mix. Set aside.
Mix the flour with the baking powder and the coco powder.
Slowly add the sugar batter to the flower and fold in the flour.
Now, the trick is in layering and cooking this 3 layered cake. You start with spreading the caramel packet in the flan box in the pan.
Add the layer of the uncooked flan mix.
Then add the cake batter. It will look messy and everything is mixed and messed up. Do not worry!
To cook it, you need to place it in a warm oven at 360!degrees but in a larger pan half filled with water for a full hour. Do not open the oven. This is very important, it has to be baked in the oven and the pan has to be in a bigger pan half full of water.
Surprisingly, after one hour without peeking those messed up layers that looked like a complete failure work their way out in the oven and separate.
Let it cool down then flip it upside down in serving plate. Place it in the fridge for few hours before serving.
